With the weather warming up and flowers beginning to bloom, it is the perfect time to enjoy outdoor activities. If you are a music lover looking to make the most of the season, why not attend a music festival? It is a great way to enjoy live performances in good weather, soak in the beauty of sunset, and connect with others who share your passion. Whether you are into jazz, rock, or Korean indie bands, Korea has a variety of festivals that cater to different tastes. If you are still not sure which one to check out, the GSIS Newsletter team has put together a few recommendations to help you decide!
- 1. Seoul Jazz Festival
One of the most anticipated events every spring is the Seoul Jazz Festival. Known as one of Asia’s top music festivals, it takes over the beautiful Seoul Olympic Park and brings together a wide range of live performances. Despite its name, the festival is not limited to jazz, you will find a mix of genres including pop, rock, indie, and more. Each year, world famous artists are invited to perform, and this year’s lineup includes LANY, Eliane Elias, and Jacob Collier as headliners. The festival offers a unique experience with both outdoor and indoor stages. At the outdoor stage, you can lay down on a picnic mat, relax with some snacks, and enjoy live music under the open sky. For a more energetic vibe, head to the indoor venues where you can sing and dance along with your favorite performers. There's even a peaceful stage by the pond, perfect for those who want to enjoy a more laid-back atmosphere. This year, the Seoul Jazz Festival will be held from May 30 to June 1 at Seoul Olympic Park. For more details on the lineup and ticket information, check out their official Instagram page @SeoulJazzFestival.
- 2. Water Bomb Festival
If you are a fan of K-pop or K-hip hop and looking to cool off with some water-filled fun this summer, Waterbomb Festival is the perfect event for you. This one-of-a-kind festival combines high-energy live performances from popular Korean artists with exciting water fights and water-themed activities, making it one of the most refreshing ways to beat the summer heat. This year’s lineup includes big names like Kai, Loco, and Crush, who are set to light up the stage, and soak the crowd, in the blazing heat of the Korean summer. The Seoul leg of the festival will be held from July 4 to 6 at the KINTEX Outdoor Area. That is not your only option, however. Waterbomb is also hosted in several other cities across Korea, so you can catch the fun wherever you are. For full lineup details and ticketing information, be sure to follow their official Instagram page @waterbomb_official and don't miss the chance to make a splash at one of Korea’s hottest (and coolest!) summer music festivals.
- 3. Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival
If you are looking to take on the heat this summer with some powerful rock music, the Pentaport Rock Festival can be your go-to option. Known as one of Korea’s most popular music festivals, Pentaport attracts thousands of fans every year and tickets often sell out quickly. The festival features a wide range of rock and band performances from both Korean and international artists. They are performing across three different stages, giving you the chance to choose which artists you want to see based on your music taste. Last year, famous rock artists like Jack White and Turnstile headlined the event, while popular Korean bands such as DAY6 and Wave to Earth also made memorable appearances. Held in Incheon, the festival offers more than just music. For those wanting the full experience, a camping area is also available, so you can stay overnight and enjoy the festival atmosphere to the fullest. This year, the Pentaport Rock Festival is scheduled for August 1–3 at Songdo Moonlight Festival Park. The lineup, headliners, and ticket details will be announced soon, so make sure to follow their official Instagram page @pentaportrf for the latest updates!
