“Ambassador for a Day” (March 7, 2023)

Within the contest of the UN 2030 Agenda, and in particular of Goal nr. 5 on Women’s empowerment and Gender equality the Embassy of Italy in the Republic of Korea has launched 2^nd edition of the project “Ambassador for a Day”, which aims at giving the opportunity to one female student, carefully chosen through a thorough and meritocratic selection process, to live one day as a senior-level Diplomat and to pursue ambitious career opportunities in different areas: political, diplomatic, economic, S&T, and cultural.

The selected candidate will spend a day with the Italian Ambassador in Seoul, participating in all activities normally carried out by an Embassy. Such activities will include political consultations with high-level officials of both Italy and South Korea, meetings with representatives of Italian companies that operate in the country within the programme of the Italian Trade Agency, discussions with a representative of the STEM sector and a cultural event, organized in coordination with the Italian Cultural Institute. The project will be communicated to Korean and Italian newspapers and media and given visibility on the Embassy’s social media.

The student’s eligibility will be assessed based on her academic background, which needs to be consistent with the role she will play for a day, and of a short essay the candidate will have to write on the topic “How breaking the crystal ceiling can help contribute to peace and security around the world”. Finally, the student should prove knowledge of the English language, and motivation and interest in the Italian culture.

Selection criteria:

1. - Academic background: bachelor and master’s students of study courses such as Political Science, International Cooperation, International Relations, Economics, Public Administration, Design and Social Science.
2. - Essay titled “How breaking the crystal ceiling can help contribute to peace and security around the world” (max. 1000 words, in English).
3. - Short motivational letter that should prove knowledge of the English language, interest in the project and passion for the Italian language, culture and traditions (max. 200 words, in English).
4. - Age restriction: 18-28
