The GSIS Ph.D. Committee is the primary body responsible for overseeing the Ph.D. program at GSIS. Currently, the Ph.D. Committee is chaired by the Dean with the participation of the Associate Dean and program chairs as designated members. The committee reviews the entrance qualifications, Ph.D. curriculum, research and internship programs, academic requirements (including the written and oral components of the Ph.D. candidacy qualifying examination), relevant scholarships, student relations, and other related regulations. The Ph.D. Committee meets at the discretion of the chair or at the behest of the Dean.
Degree Requirements
• 48 credits
• A minimum GPA of 3.00 or above
• Completion of GSIS core courses (passed or waived)
• Completion of the Independent Study
• Completion of the Field of Concentration: Choose two (2) fields under your major and take five (5) courses from each field
• Two years (i.e. four semesters) of resident enrollment
• Completion of requirements within 14 semesters
• Completion of the Foreign Language Examinations
• Completion of the Comprehensive Examination
• Completion of a Doctoral Dissertation and Oral Defense
• Article publication in a journal which is recognized as a top-rated journal by the Korea Research Foundation or any equivalent journal
